Conversations with Mary

Working on My Mother
Can you please give me feedback on the composition and if the two work together as a series and alone. This is not the final print of my mother. This is only a reference model. The image on the bottom is of the actual pieces/plates being processed, tested, and printed.

  1. I definitely think they work together. And in the absence of something to compare it to, I think the composition works well.

  2. In my view an image of hair doesn't have a point of attention, - something would strike me in a moment, or give me very personal information I would follow. The two others are very interesting.

  3. Good stuff, Emily - keep it up! As with your dad, I find the separate proofs almost as engaging as the composite image. I think the two pieces work well as a diptych. When you mentioned that your parents are divorced and remarried to ther people, I wondered if you might do portraits of their spouses... and of course, I still hope you'll do one of yourself!

  4. Good process and results. I think the self portrait is the next important step in this investigation.
(Also on the practical side of things, please clean up the print studio area where you have been exposing and developing the plates.....with thanks.)
